What is Insurance for Musicians?
Musician’s insurance covers claims that may arise from your performance or operations during an event. For example, if a club patron injures themselves by tripping over your equipment or you damage a venue, musician’s insurance could help cover the costs of these claims. The events where you would need musician’s insurance could include:

- Corporate events
- Small parties
- Fairs
- Festivals
- Farmers markets
- Studio recording sessions
Insurance for musicians provides coverage for your General Liability needs, and these claims are the most common types you could face. Our policy provides General Liability insurance for bands as well as individual musicians.
Why Should You Carry Musician's Insurance?
You may be thinking, “I’m just playing music. Why would I need insurance?” Insurance may not be the first thing that comes to mind when you’re booking gigs, but here are a few reasons why you need it:
- Having liability insurance positions you as a serious professional.
- Many clients and venue owners will require you to show proof of insurance before hiring you, and may request that you add them to your policy as an additional insured.
- Liability insurance gives you a layer of defense against claims such as bodily injury or property damage.
- You can enjoy financial peace of mind.
How Much Does Musician’s Insurance Cost?
A basic annual policy starts at $16.58 per month or $199 per year if you choose to pay in full. Annual policies are best for musicians who perform at events or venues throughout the year and need consistent coverage.
If you only need short-term coverage, we offer an event policy that provides up to three days of coverage for as low as $59. While your event may only last for one day, our policy ensures you are protected if you need a day to set up or tear down your equipment at the venue.
Some venues require you to list them as an additional insured. Additional insureds can be added to your policy free of charge.

General Liability Limits
The most your policy will pay for bodily injury and property damage claims occurring in the policies term that you become legally obligated to pay due to your business services.

The maximum amount your policy will pay in a 12-month period for bodily injury and property damage claims that result from the products you use to perform your services. However, it does not cover your products that are sold or distributed.

The amount that your policy will pay for claims arising out of one or more of the following offenses:
- False Arrest, detention or imprisonment
- Malicious prosecution
- Wrongful Eviction or Wrongful Entry
- Oral or written publications that slander or libels a person or organization
- Oral or written publication or material that violates a person’s right of privacy
- The use of another’s advertising idea in your advertisement

Do Musicians Need Liability Insurance?
Yes! Musician’s insurance is designed to protect you in the event you are sued as a result of your business operations. You could be held liable for claims that include injuries, illnesses, or damages arising from your entertainment services. Claims can arise from guests, venues, vendors, or other participants.
You may also be named in claims against the venue and may not be extended coverage under their policy, which is why you need a musicians insurance policy. This is also why many venues will require that you add them to your policy as an additional insured—to protect them from your liability.
Can I Insure My Musical Instruments?
Yes, an annual policy can extend your insurance coverage to instruments and other gear in the event they are stolen or damaged. Select to add the Equipment and Gear coverage to your policy at checkout for a low monthly cost. This coverage includes a $250 deductible.
There are two pricing options to choose from with music equipment insurance:
- $2,000 policy year (+$6.00 per month)
- $5,000 policy year (+$12.50 per month)
This allows you to select the amount that can reimburse your instruments or equipment if it is ever damaged or stolen. This coverage will follow you no matter where you are performing!
What Is Covered Under a Musician Insurance Policy?
Musician’s insurance is designed to cover third-party claims against you or your group. These are instances where you caused damage to someone else’s property (including venues) or injured someone due to negligence and include situations such as:
- An audience member hurting themselves at one of your shows and suing you, claiming there were too many people in the venue.
- Transporting your keyboard into a venue and bumping it against the wall, creating a large hole that the venue holds you responsible for repairing.
- One of the employees at the venue tripping over your amp and injuring themselves, then suing you to pay for their medical fees.
Our policy is designed to cover solo artists or groups of up to ten people. You have the ability to add options to the General Liability policy, including instrument coverage, that is not otherwise covered.
What is an Additional Insured and How Do I Add One?
What Is a Certificate of Insurance for Musicians?
There are two types of certificates that you may be interested in downloading from your policy.
- Proof of Insurance: This document is your “proof” that a certificate is issued to you, certifying coverage under a commercial and General Liability master policy. This document will list the limits of your coverage, additional options you added to your policy, and the effective date.
- Certificate for Additional Insureds: If you have added a venue, employer, or location as an additional insured, you can download a certificate of insurance. This certificate lists details of the insurance policy, including coverage limits but also lists their personal names and addresses. This certificate doesn’t transfer the rights of your policy. It’s still your policy—it simply extends your coverage to an additional insured in the event that you and the additional insured are listed in a claim.
When Can I Receive a Certificate of Insurance?
You can easily download your certificate of insurance after checkout. It will be available in your customer dashboard along with other helpful items that can be downloaded as PDFs.

Are Wedding Musicians Covered Under Musician Insurance?
Yes! Musicians who perform at weddings are covered under this policy.
Purchase event coverage for events lasting up to three days or an annual policy for coverage for a full year. Depending on how many weddings you perform at, the annual coverage may be the better option for purchase.
Purchase DJ coverage if you are a wedding DJ.
