What Is Lawn Care Insurance?
Lawn care business insurance is a type of landscaping insurance designed to cover the most common claims that you may face on the job. If an employee accidentally cuts a sprinkler line while edging or your mower throws a rock at a customer’s window, lawn insurance can cover some or all of the cost.
From third-party property damage to costly medical and legal fees, we cover the costs so you and your crew can keep doing what you do best.
How Much Does Lawn Care Business Insurance Cost?
The cost of lawn care insurance starts as low as $33.75/month or $375/year. This covers you and up to two employees, with the option to add coverage for up to nine total employees.
Your final cost depends on the optional coverage you choose, your business’s revenue, and the number of employees you have.
What Insurance Do I Need for My Lawn Care Business?
Every lawn care business needs general liability insurance to cover unexpected accidents. This base coverage protects you if your business activities result in injuries, property damage, or other liabilities.
You can further customize your coverage to fit your business needs with add-ons, including:
- Equipment & Tools Coverage: Provides coverage for movable business equipment, including mowers, trimmers, and ladders
- Lawn Care Surety Bonds: Financial protection for failing to complete contractual obligations
- Workers Compensation Coverage: Covers an employee’s lost wages and medical expenses if they get sick or injured on the job
- Commercial Auto Coverage: Liability coverage for work vehicles
- Snow and Ice Removal: Liability coverage for residential snow removal services (single-family homes, driveways, and small multi-family complexes); excludes commercial properties and public roads
- Pool and Pond Maintenance: Covers pool cleaning, chemical treatments, and basic pump/filter repairs; also helps protect you if you accidentally damage a client’s pool or equipment during service
- Additional Insureds: Lets you temporarily add contractors or clients to your policy when required; pricing starts at $0.83/month or $10/year per insured, and subcontractors typically must list you as an additional insured on their policy

FAQs About Lawn Care Business Insurance
Is landscaping insurance required by law in my state?
Oregon is the only state that requires lawn care professionals to have liability insurance prior to issuing a license. Keep in mind that not having insurance limits your access to jobs, as many clients won’t hire without it.
What coverage limits do HOAs and commercial clients usually require?
HOAs and commercial clients typically require policy limits of $1,000,000 for each occurrence and a $2,000,000 aggregate. However, each HOA and client determines specific limits, so always refer to the contract for the correct information.
Does my policy cover pesticide/herbicide application, or do I need a special endorsement?
Lawn care insurance does not cover herbicide and/or pesticide applications requiring a license. Always ensure you use eligible chemicals and solutions when treating a client’s property.
Are my tools, mowers, and trailers covered if they’re lost or stolen on the job?
Our equipment and tools insurance covers theft and vandalism of lawn care equipment that’s in-transit, mobile, or stored away from your business. This includes detached trailers, mowers, and other essential landscaping tools.
Note: Equipment and tools coverage is not included in the base lawn care policy. You can add this optional coverage at checkout when you purchase your policy or anytime after via your online dashboard.
