What Is Insurance For Artists and Crafters?
Art and craft insurance is a type of liability coverage specifically designed for creatives who make and sell their own work. It can cover accidents, medical bills, repair costs, and legal fees when your business activities lead to accidents involving other people.
Insurance Canopy’s coverage includes:
- $2 million aggregate in general liability protection
- Short-term or year-round coverage options
- Instant, event-approved Certificate of Insurance (COI)
How Much Does Art Business Insurance Cost?
Art and craft business insurance starts at $24.25 per month and includes coverage for your products, multiple events, and online sales, all under one policy. Short-term vendor insurance starts at $49 per event and is made for makers who need quick coverage for a few events.
You can buy online in minutes, download your COI instantly, and get back to what you love!
Who Needs Art and Craft Insurance?
No matter how you cut it, craft it, or create it, liability insurance is made to cover a variety of creative professionals, like:
- Ceramic and pottery artists
- Etsy and online sellers
- Fiber, textile, and mixed-media artists
- Jewelry designers and metalsmiths
- Painters, illustrators, and printmakers
- Photographers and digital artists
- Sculptors and woodworkers
Whether you sell in person, online, or both, Insurance Canopy makes it easy to get the coverage most events and retailers require.
Which Policy Do I Need?
Not every artist crafts the same way, so your insurance shouldn’t either. Wherever your work takes you next, we’ve got flexible options that fit your creative flow.

Then when I was ready to make my purchase, I called again. Was explained to me that everything was done online, I told the lady on the phone I didn't want to make this kind of purchase online with no guidance. She was so helpful and kind and patient! Walked me thru every page of the form and honestly didn't take long at all. Hope I never need to use the policy but nice to know I have it.

FAQs About Insurance for Artists and Crafters
Does Insurance Cover Art Fairs and Markets?
Yes, art and craft insurance can cover you at art fairs and markets! It’s common for events to require vendors and exhibitors to show proof of insurance. With Insurance Canopy, you can easily buy and download a Certificate of Insurance in minutes.
Please note these policies are not designed to insure the event itself. If you are planning, managing, or hosting an event, check out our event insurance policy!
Can I Get Coverage For Online Craft Sales?
Yes, you can get coverage for online craft sales. An annual craft business insurance policy automatically covers you for goods you list and sell online! You can also add Data Breach Coverage (Cyber Liability) for added protection when handling virtual transactions, customer data, and payment info.
How Do I Choose Between Artist, Crafter, and Artisan Insurance?
You can choose between artist, crafter, and artisan insurance by selecting a policy that most closely matches the type of work you do. The coverage offered across all three categories is the same, and our team is here to help if you have questions.
Our policies are meant to cover handcrafters, like painters, jewelers, and fiber artists. We’re proud to partner with ACT Insurance to offer additional coverage for authors, graphic designers, and other creative industries!
Still have questions regarding our policies? Feel free to reach out to our licensed insurance agents. We are available Monday through Friday from 8am–8pm ET.
