What is Liability Insurance for Sports Coaches?
Liability insurance for sports coaches is a financial safety net designed to protect you from the costs of claims and lawsuits related to your coaching.
It combines general liability and professional liability in one insurance policy to help pay for accidental injuries, property damage, and other harm — like an athlete’s broken wrist or court fees from a negligence lawsuit.

What Does Insurance for Sports Coaches Cover?
Sport instructor insurance from Insurance Canopy is available for a variety of coaches, including soccer, football, basketball, youth sports (ages 2+), and more. It covers physical, financial, and other harm you may unintentionally cause others.

What Does it Not Cover?
Sports coach insurance is designed for individual coaches, and does not cover leagues, camps, or sports facilities. It doesn’t apply to injuries you experience, or harm you cause others due to illegal, intentional, or fraudulent acts. We also do not currently cover:
- Coaches affiliated with professional, semi-pro, or collegiate leagues
- Full-contact martial arts like boxing, mixed martial arts (MMA), and wrestling
- Strength training for children under eight years old
- Swim and water polo coaches

What Kind of Insurance Does a Coach Need?
