It’s no wonder that yoga is appealing to people all over the world. Yoga improves flexibility, helps manage stress, relieves back pain and muscle strain, and much more. Although yoga is a very popular practice, there are still risks associated with it. We’ll share with you why you—as a yoga teacher—need yoga insurance, some common claims, and coverage details.

WHY GET INSURANCE FOR YOGA TEACHERS?

We know that as a yoga teacher, you train for hundreds of hours and spend thousands of dollars to make sure you have the skill and expertise to teach yoga and help your participants practice the best they can. You don’t plan for accidents to happen, but it is inevitable. Your participants can hold you liable for any harm done to them and their bodies, so you’ll want to make sure that you get yoga insurance. Without insurance, you can be left paying thousands of dollars out of your own pocket.

Any sort of bodily harm or physical injury that may happen while practicing yoga can result in harm to the participants, like sprains, pulled muscles, and other related injuries. Perhaps while teaching a yoga class, your participant does a bridge incorrectly and strains their back—you may be held liable for any harm done to them or medical expenses.

These types of physical injuries listed above can also lead to secondary issues like impaired mobility, loss of work, and any other injuries at home. However, yoga insurance from Insurance Canopy includes general liability, which includes issues that don’t involve exercising, like a slip and fall accident in your studio’s parking lot, or a participant tripping over something in your studio. Make sure that your studio and the parking lot are always free from harm, so that you can avoid those claims.

WHAT ARE THE YOGA INSURANCE COVERAGE DETAILS?

Insurance for yoga teachers is offered by Insurance Canopy for $129 per year, or a $12.50 monthly fee. The base policy includes general limits and coverage, with some additional coverage that you can purchase if you so desire. We’ll explain the base policy and the endorsements that you can add.

BASIC COVERAGE

General and Professional Liability Aggregate:
General liability insurance protects you against property damages and bodily injuries that you are legally liable to pay for. Professional liability protects you against clients who file claims against you under the complaint that they were injured or harmed by your negligence while you were teaching yoga. This limit is $3,000,000.

Product and Completed Operations Aggregate:
This is the maximum amount that will be paid out for property damage claims or bodily injury that result from your products that you use during your service. This limit is $3,000,000.

Occurrence Limit of $2,000,000:
Your insurance policy will cover up to $2 million per claim if your client attempts to sue you.

Damage to Premises Rented To You:
If someone makes claims of false arrest or there is detention or imprisonment, violations of the right to privacy, malicious prosecution, etc., your Insurance Canopy yoga insurance has you covered. This part of the policy also protects you from oral or written material which harms or damages your reputation.

Personal and Advertising Injury:
If someone makes claims of false arrest or there is detention or imprisonment, violations of the right to privacy, malicious prosecution, etc., your Insurance Canopy yoga insurance has you covered. This part of the policy also protects you from oral or written material which harms or damages your reputation.

ADDITIONAL COVERAGE

For only an additional $16 per year on your yoga insurance policy, you can purchase Tools and Equipment Coverage. This coverage is specific protection for your tools should any of them get stolen or damaged. This can include yoga mats, filming equipment, etc. The limit for this coverage is $2,000, which means Insurance Canopy will pay up to $2,000 in replacement equipment.

Insurance Canopy also offers the option for you to add additional insureds to your policy if you need to add additional people or organizations to your policy like the studio or gym owner. This allows you to add HOA’s or property management to your insurance policy so they can receive protection if they are named in a suit due to a covered business-related claim caused by you or your business. The cost of each additional insured is $15, or $30 for an unlimited amount of additional insureds.
