How Much Is CrossFit Insurance?
At Insurance Canopy, CrossFit insurance costs as little as $15/month or $159/year.
Your $15/month base policy is designed to cover common fitness instructor claims (your legal and financial risks) all CrossFit trainers share.
But sometimes the services that make your training business unique require more customized protection. That’s why we offer several optional coverages to let you pay for just what you need.
Here’s a breakdown of the average cost of CrossFit insurance for our policyholders:

What Coverage Is Essential for CrossFit Trainers?
All trainers need the general and professional liability coverage in our base policy to protect against their most common risks and claims.
General liability is designed to cover lawsuits due to accidents like third-party injuries and property damage. Even a client dissatisfied with their results or your advice can sue you, so professional liability insurance is another must-have.
You can also customize your policy for extra protection.
$15/Month or Less Gets You Crucial CrossFit Coverages
Our base CrossFit trainer insurance policy exceeds insurance requirements and gives peace of mind while training clients. The $159 annual payment plan (or $13.25/month) is the most popular, but you can also pay $15/month for flexible month-to-month coverage.
Our base policy includes the most important insurance coverages for CrossFit trainers:
$16/Month to $25/Month Gets You Personalized Protection
You can opt into these extra coverages for an additional cost:
- Gear and Equipment (Inland Marine) Coverage (our most popular add-on for CrossFit trainers!)
- Additional Insureds
- Diet or Nutrition Coverage
- Cyber Liability (Data Theft) Coverage
What Factors Influence the Cost of CrossFit Insurance?
At Insurance Canopy, only the coverages and the payment plan you choose will change your rate. Your CrossFit insurance cost doesn’t change due to the characteristics of your business.
Some insurance companies factor in training style, income, employees, and other data to create an individualized price. It’s not the most transparent process.
We keep things simple with a flat $15/month base price for all qualifying trainers — just quality coverage with no surprises!
These are the requirements to qualify for our CrossFit trainer insurance:
- Your fitness classes don’t fall under any of our three excluded types:
- Martial arts (like MMA and judo)
- Aerial sports (like aerial yoga and pole dance)
- Water fitness (like swim coaching and water aerobics)
- You live within the U.S. (we’re available for business in all 50 states, but we don’t sell policies in Missouri)
- You do not have any prior claims
- You have earned any certifications or licenses required by your local government
Can I Reduce the Cost of My Insurance?
Your CrossFit insurance cost is about 13% lower when you choose an annual payment plan.
If you opt for monthly payments, you end up paying $180/year vs. paying for your policy upfront, which costs $159.
68% of our CrossFit instructors choose an annual plan to claim their discount, while 32% opt for the convenience and flexibility of monthly payments.
Another way to keep your expenses low is by managing your risks. Avoiding costly lawsuits and medical bills can keep more of your hard-earned money in your wallet. Try these risk reduction tips:
- Avoid common fitness injuries with regular client health assessments
- Remove tripping hazards like extra mats and keep your box clean and dry
- Inspect exercise gear for wear and tear
- Use a CrossFit liability waiver for additional protection in case of a lawsuit
- Keep up with your continuing education for the latest research and safer methods

FAQs About CrossFit Insurance Costs
How Much Is CrossFit Insurance Typically?
While some insurance companies’ CrossFit insurance starts as high as $232/year, Insurance Canopy’s average CrossFit insurance cost is 37% lower at just $159/year.
How Much Is CrossFit Gym Insurance vs. CrossFit Trainer Insurance?
CrossFit gym insurance costs about twice as much as CrossFit trainer insurance.
- Trainer insurance covers harm caused by your business, services, and advice
- CrossFit gym insurance is a type of commercial property insurance that protects CrossFit box owners from risks and damage involving their gym building.
We don’t offer gym insurance at this time.
Even if your employer has gym insurance, their policy might not cover employees, part-time trainers, or contractors. And their policy would likely only cover you for work done at the gym, leaving you exposed if you offer training elsewhere.
Check your contract to see if you need to buy your own CrossFit trainer insurance.
Does Offering Additional Services Increase Insurance Costs?
Adding services that still fit under your base CrossFit instructor policy won’t raise your rates. For example, if you decide to start offering streaming classes, too, your online teaching is already covered!
You can also choose to buy new coverages to your existing policy anytime from your online dashboard. For example, you might want to add cyber liability insurance to your CrossFit policy to cover your risk of data theft now that you’re teaching and collecting client payments online. Since this is an opt-in to extra coverage, your insurance cost will go up.
