What Is DJ Insurance?
DJ insurance helps provide financial protection from common claims including the cost of bodily injury, property damage, or loss of personal property.
Unfortunately, accidents happen, and as a DJ you face a unique set of risks that could be catastrophic for your business. With DJ insurance from Insurance Canopy, you’ll have coverage for general liability and damage to premises rented.
Why Should You Carry DJ Insurance?
As a DJ, you face liability risks that are unique to your industry, such as setting up and tearing down your equipment at shows. There is always a risk of damaging a venue or someone being injured by your equipment during these times.
Being insured means that when accidents happen, you are not left to pay the price alone. Financial peace of mind is a major benefit to carrying DJ insurance but there are many other reasons to get insured, such as:
- Liability insurance gives you a layer of defense against claims such as bodily injury or property damage.
- You can protect the equipment you bring with you to gigs and events against theft, damage, or loss with Inland Marine (commonly known as Equipment and Gear) coverage.
- Venues may require you to show proof of insurance before hiring you or allowing you to operate on their property and may require you to add them to your policy as an additional insured.
How Much Is DJ Insurance?
A basic general liability insurance policy starts at around $16 per month or $192 per year. The amount you pay depends on several factors, including whether you’ve added supplementary coverage options to your policy, the number of additional insureds you need to add, and your business’ annual revenue.
Can I Purchase DJ Equipment Insurance?
If you purchase an annual DJ insurance policy, you can add Equipment and Gear coverage to protect your DJ/KJ/VJ gear and/or lighting equipment on- and off-premises and during transportation. Should your equipment be stolen or damaged, you could be looking at thousands of dollars for replacements or repairs. If you are a mobile DJ, adding Equipment and Gear coverage to your policy is a must-have to safeguard your setup.
There are two coverage options available to DJs: up to $2,000 and up to $5,000 in policy protection. You can add Equipment and Gear insurance to your annual policy at any time. This coverage is not available to add to an event policy.

Equipment and Gear is an optional coverage that protects your speakers, turntables, mixers, monitors, lights, etc. Not every carrier offers this coverage, but we understand how important these assets are to your business. We offer two options if you want to protect your DJ gear:

- $5,000 policy year (+$12.50/month)

General Liability Limits
The most your policy will pay for bodily injury and property damage claims occurring in the policies term that you become legally obligated to pay due to your business services.

Do I Need DJ Insurance?
Yes. As a DJ, you may be held liable if injuries, illnesses, or damages are caused by your business operations. For example, if a party attendee is injured from slipping on condensation caused by your fog machine, you could be held responsible. Claims from unfortunate incidents like these can easily wipe out your business and personal finances. With DJ insurance, you’ll have the protection you need just in case something goes wrong.
Do I Need a DJ Annual Policy or an Event Policy?
To fit your DJ business needs, Insurance Canopy provides two DJ policies: an annual policy and an event policy.
An annual policy is active for one year and designed for DJs who perform year-round or plan on DJing for several months at a time. An event policy is best suited for DJs who are playing one show or are playing at a weekend-long event. The show policy is active for up to three consecutive days. Gear and Equipment coverage is only available for the annual policy, not the event policy.

Do I Need DJ Insurance if I’m a Part-Time DJ?
Yes! Even if DJing is something you do on the side, you still face the same risks that full-time DJs do.
For DJs who only need insurance here and there, we recommend our event policy. This provides one to three days of coverage—perfect for purchasing for the occasional gig here and there.
Do You Offer Mobile DJ Insurance?
Both our annual and event policies can cover mobile DJs.
For the best coverage, we suggest purchasing the annual policy so you have the option to add Gear and Equipment coverage so you can protect the gear you take with you to events.

What is a DJ Certificate of Insurance?
A DJ certificate of insurance details your coverages and limits, in addition to providing Insurance Canopy’s contact information. This is what you would present to a vendor, venue, promoter, or event organizer when they ask for proof of insurance before booking you. Insurance Canopy makes it easy to access this document—just go to your user dashboard and click “Download Certificate.”
