Additional Insured
What Is an Additional Insured?
Imagine you’re selling cupcakes at a big event, and the event organizer says, “You can only sell here if you put my name on your insurance policy.”
That’s what “additional insured” means. It’s someone who wants to be protected by your general liability insurance just in case something goes wrong while you’re doing business together.
Why Would Someone Ask to Be an Additional Insured?
Small business owners often get this request from venues, clients, landlords, or partners. They want proof they’re covered if someone gets hurt or something gets damaged while you’re working with them. Adding them to your policy (aka an additional insured endorsement) means they’re covered like you are if they’re involved in an accident or lawsuit because of you.
Some people won’t let you work with them unless you add them to your policy, so it can be a deal-breaker or a sale-maker. Luckily, Insurance Canopy makes it easy to add additional insureds right from your dashboard.
How Much Does It Cost to Add Additional Insureds to My Policy?
Many Insurance Canopy policies include additional insureds at no extra cost. Others charge a small fee, usually around $10 to $15 per year. Check for a coverage page that matches your industry. Or, log in to your dashboard for more details.

How Do I Remove an Additional Insured From My Policy (and Do I Need to?)
You only need to remove an additional insured if you’re done working together. Let’s say your additional insured is your landlord. If you end your lease, it’s okay to remove them. If you’re still renting a space, keep them on your policy.
