The Ideal Coverage for You

Insurance Canopy offers you a combination of both General and Professional Liability Insurance on our personal trainer policy, while other insurance companies will make you purchase both separately.

  • General Liability Insurance protects you against third-party bodily injury or property damage claims that arise out of your training operations. For example, if someone slips in your studio, you could be at risk of a claim.
  • Professional Liability Insurance insures your training practice against negligence claims, meaning you were negligent during a session which caused injury or harm to your client. Whether it was on purpose or not, you could be held liable to pay for any client injury.
  • Tools and Equipment Insurance offers you protection for any gear you have in transit or in storage at your facility where you work. If someone were to steal your training gear and you get it on camera, your insurance could help you out.
  • Medical Expense Coverage is a good-faith portion of your insurance which could pay for the medical expenses of someone who gets injured under your training guide. Instead of going to court, you could cover their fees and be at peace in the situation.
  • Additional Endorsements are available to be added to your personal training insurance base policy. If you offer professional dietary or nutritional advice to your clients, you can purchase this coverage to add to your policy. Other endorsements can quickly and easily be added to your policy during checkout.

Protect Against Risk

You might not be aware of the types of claims you could face while training your clients, but the truth is that accidents can and do happen and you need to be protected against the worst case scenarios.

  • Error & Omission Claims-- If you’re spotting a client and they hurt themselves, you could be liable for their x-ray fee that diagnoses their injury.
  • Slip-and-Fall Incidents- Say you’re training out of a home gym and your client slips on some water and sprains their ankle. You could be liable for the medical expenses of your client.
  • Property Damage Claims- When you rent space in someone’s facility, you could be liable for any property damage that happens as a result of your training.
  • Stolen Gear Claims- If you travel to-and-from your gym with all your gear and it gets stolen out of your car, you could file a claim and get help with recovering your items.

Questions About Personal Trainer Insurance

Personal trainer insurance covers claims related to the day-to-day operations of your personal training business. For example, if your client injures themselves while following your instructions or you damage a studio you rented to conduct a training session, personal trainer insurance could help cover the costs of these claims, so that you don’t have to cover hefty expenses out of your own pocket.

Personal trainer insurance also provides coverages for business personal property, general liability, professional liability, and damage to premises rented, among others.

The cost of insurance for personal trainers base policy is $129 per year, or $12.50 per month. The base policy includes both general and professional liability coverage. If you want to purchase additional coverage, the cost will increase. Endorsements, like dietary and nutritionist coverage, cost $75. While cost is an important factor when deciding which insurance policy to buy, make sure that you have the necessary coverage for your business and its operations.

Although there is a base policy cost, you will also be required to fill out an application that will ask about your claims history and other business needs. These factors may also affect the cost of your personal training insurance policy.

General liability insurance protects you against lawsuits and property damages. Some of these claims could be slip-and-fall accidents and data loss.

Professional liability insurance protects you in case of malpractice or negligence, meaning if you do something wrong and harm or injure your client.

Yes. Unfortunately, accidents happen everyday due to physical activities or negligence of a personal trainer. Personal trainer insurance is an important component of your business and is designed to protect your financial assets if you were to be sued as a result of your business operations.

You could be held liable for claims that include injuries, illnesses, or damages arising from your personal training or massage services. The legal costs alone from claims like these can be financially devastating. You also may be held liable to pay for multiple doctors visits, and any loss of income if your client is unable to work. With personal trainer insurance, you'll have the protection you need just in case something goes wrong, and avoid having to pay hundreds—if not thousands—of dollars out of pocket. Hopefully you won’t ever need to use your insurance coverage, but it is much safer for your business to have a policy in place in case anything ever happens.

Cyber liability insurance is intended to protect your client’s information and company data in the event of a cyberattack. This policy can be added to your base personal training insurance policy for $75. This policy includes insurance if you are held liable for financial damage to your clients, insurance for you to cover the damages to your business after a cyber attack (also known as First Party coverage), and insurance to pay for possible fines you may have to pay after a cyber attack.

All of these protections have their own individual limits, as shown in the chart on the website. The overall total limit for the life of the policy, for any of these 3 protections, has a limit of $100,000.

Having an additional insured means that you can add property management or HOA’s to your insurance policy so they can receive protection if they are named in a suit due to a covered business-related loss or claim you have caused. If you do in-home training at your house, you could add your HOA as an additional insured. Or, if you are training someone in a privately owned gym, you can add that gym as an additional insured.

In addition, a written contract, such as a venue, studio rental, or employment contract is required to add another party as additional insured. Additional insured status cannot be granted to a friend or co-worker as an extension of your policy. Each individual must purchase their own policy to obtain liability coverage.
