Why Do Amazon Sellers Need Liability Insurance?

Amazon sellers need liability insurance to meet marketplace requirements and help safeguard your business from lawsuits and costly claims. Whether Amazon sales are your full time focus or a part-time gig, accidents can and will happen.
Claims of choking hazards, illnesses, allergic reactions, fires, and property damage could befall your business without any warning—which may lead to recalls, settlements, or even bankruptcy. Plus, Amazon now requires anyone who sells at least $10,000 in a 30 day period to carry Amazon seller business insurance. Failure to do so can lead to permanent suspension of your Amazon account.
In most cases, Amazon will not take the blame for a non-insured claim caused by your product or business operations. That makes you fully responsible for any costs and repercussions. Having the right protection plan in place can help keep you in business for years to come.

How Much Does Amazon Product Insurance Cost?

More than 50% of Insurance Canopy customers pay less than $1,400 for their annual premiums. However, business insurance for Amazon sellers is tailored specifically to your product and business needs. Because every policy is unique, so is the price of your policy. Your coverage costs will be impacted by your:

Industry

Higher risk products may require higher insurance limits.

Business Size

Where you work and who you employ impact coverage needs.

Revenue

The amount you sell reflects the amount of coverage you need.

Limits

Some retailers require certain insurance limits on your policy.

Claims History

Past claims can put you at high risk and impact your limits.

What Are Amazon’s Seller Insurance Requirements?

If you make $10,000 in sales in 30 days, Amazon now requires you to have product liability insurance. This helps protect you as a seller and Amazon as a marketplace in the case of a product liability claim
