Staying relevant in any profession or industry is a constant hustle—it requires a lot of hard work and dedication, and it’s no different for professional DJs. Getting jobs as a DJ requires you to always prove your worth and value, so that people will want to hire you. Because DJing is a very competitive profession, it’s important to stay at the top of your game to grow your business.

At Insurance Canopy, we not only provide DJ insurance, but we also want you to succeed in your career as a DJ. We’ll share with you three tips on how you can stay relevant and up-to-date with all the most recent DJ trends.

Tip #1: Collaborate With Other DJs

Networking with other professionals in the industry can help you get fresh ideas as you collaborate with others and talk about what has worked for them. Networking with DJs who have more experience in the industry can lend you helpful advice that you can implement in your own career. There are Facebook group pages that you can join so you can participate in conversations and hear from others. “This page is only for DJ’s” has 45,000 members and posts daily. Do some research and find a group that would be beneficial for you.

Tip #2: Keep Your Fans in the Loop

Updating your fans and keeping in touch with them is a great way to stay connected and relevant as a DJ. Announce on social media all the events that you will be performing and invite your followers to come. You can post on your Instagram feed using Reels, Stories, IGTV, or Instagram Live to make sure you’re keeping in touch with your followers with a variety of formats. If you need ideas on what to post, take a look at this article.

Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone here and try things you haven’t done before. Perhaps you’ve never done an Instagram Live or Facebook Live before. You could even consider getting another local DJ and doing a video together to promote your upcoming events.

Tip #3: Never Stop Advertising

There are a myriad of things you can do to always be advertising your business and your skills. To start out simple, you can hand out fliers at events that you attend to promote parties that you’re performing at. You can also hand out mixtapes to promoters at events and parties so they can hear your music and talent. Hang up fliers around town at crowded public places so you can get more visibility.

Like mentioned above, take advantage of social media. Make sure your Instagram account is a business account so you can track the analytics of your posts and see the demographics of your followers. This will help you strategize your posts so they can reach the right people and get more notice. Have a Facebook group page so you can have even more of an online presence. Consider getting a TikTok account so you can post videos of your music and work.
