What Is DJ Insurance?
The day-to-day operations of your business opens you up to certain exposures that could affect your bottom line. DJ insurance helps provide financial protection, including the cost of bodily injury, property damage or loss of personal property.
With DJ insurance from Insurance Canopy, you’ll have coverage for general liability and damage to premises rented.
Why Should You Carry DJ Insurance?
- You may face some liability risks unique to DJs such as setting up shows, equipment, fog machines, or speakers.
- Venues may require you to show proof of insurance before hiring you or allowing you to operate on their property.
- Liability insurance gives you a layer of defense against claims such as bodily injury or property damage.
- Financial peace of mind.
- If you use your own equipment and you transport it to multiple locations, you will want to protect your equipment against theft, damage, or loss with inland marine coverage.
- Wedding venues, concert halls, and other places may require you to add them as an additional insured to your policy before allowing you to perform.
How Much Is DJ Insurance?
A basic general liability insurance policy starts at around $16/month. Also, there are supplementary coverage options that you may add to your policy. For example, you can name additional insureds to your policy or purchase additional equipment insurance coverage.

Questions About DJ Insurance
Do I Need DJ Insurance?
Yes. As a DJ, you may be held liable if injuries, illnesses, or damages are caused by your business operations. For example, if a party attendee is injured from slipping on condensation from your fog machine, you could be held responsible. Claims from unfortunate incidents like these can easily wipe out your business and personal finances. With DJ insurance, you’ll have the protection you need just in case something goes wrong.
Can I Purchase DJ Equipment Insurance?
If you purchase a DJ insurance policy, you have the option to add DJ equipment coverage. DJ equipment insurance covers your DJ, KJ, or VJ gear or lighting equipment on and off premises and during transportation. If you are a DJ, KJ, or VJ who travels to various locations, adding DJ equipment insurance to your policy is necessary to protect the tools of your business.
Should your equipment – or the equipment you rent-be stolen or damaged, you could be looking at thousands of dollars to replace your gear.
There are two coverage options available to DJs depending upon the amount of equipment coverage you need.
Do You Need a DJ Event Policy or an Annual Policy?
To fit your DJ business needs, Insurance Canopy provides two DJ policies—an event policy and an annual policy. An event policy is best suited for DJs who are playing one show or are playing at a weekend-long event. The show policy is active for up to 3 consecutive days. An annual policy is active for one year and is designed for DJs who perform year-round or plan on DJing for several months at a time. Keep in mind that Tools & Equipment Coverage is not available for the event policy. To learn more about the two coverages, take a look at this blog, Do You Need a DJ Event Policy or DJ Annual Policy?
Do You Offer Mobile DJ Insurance?
Both our annual and event policies can cover mobile DJs.
For the best coverage, we suggest purchasing the annual policy that gives the option to add Tools & Equipment coverage. This coverage will extend protection to gear and equipment that you take with you when you travel to events. It is designed to cover damage or theft to your business’ property, even when you are performing on location.
Your general liability policy covers third-party claims against you—when you cause damage to someone else’s property or injure someone due to negligence.
To keep your business running, purchase mobile DJ insurance and opt to add coverage for your gear today!
Choosing the right insurance is critical.
